Hannah Fong

Dizi, Hulusi, Dong Xiao

Hannah Fong began studying dizi in 2013 under dizi teacher Gao Jun, building a strong foundation in traditional Chinese dizi techniques. She later continued her training with Xu Zhuoming and Yu Xiaoqing and most recently had the opportunity to study with various teachers at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. 

As a performer, Hannah has extensive experience playing in youth ensembles, community groups, and college orchestras, and she recently received the Gold Medal Solo Mastery Award for Woodwinds at the 2025 Stanford Baipu International Music Competition. She also enjoys playing contemporary works for solo dizi in addition to traditional works, performing contemporary works for Chinese chamber ensembles, and exploring jazz with a focus on traditional Chinese instruments. Hannah holds a bachelor’s degree in linguistics, speech and language sciences, and education and currently works as a special education teacher assistant.
